Our History

As the oldest established firm in Cheadle, we are proud of our long and rich history within the area.

We can share our captivating timeline, fascinating stories from the past, and showcase keepsakes from historical funeral records and ledgers, while also discussing our future plans, including the redevelopment of our site.

Funeral Industry

Since 1863, we have been dedicated to supporting bereaved families, accumulating extensive knowledge, insight, and connections within the funeral industry.

Our dedicated team of professional Funeral Directors possesses years of experience and is always available to provide guidance and support, as well as educate those interested in this often-overlooked field.

Collaboration

We have successfully delivered engaging and informative presentations to local NHS Trusts and healthcare providers.

Our commitment to collaboration is demonstrated through an ongoing project supported by Ryan, our Acting Head of Business, in partnership with the Community Nurses of Stockport.

This initiative focuses on improving end-of-life care and empowering the bereaved, with Ryan conducting several talks for district nurses and assisting in the creation of NHS-approved literature for families.

The work we are doing together aims to be implemented nationwide. You can read more here.

Additionally, Ryan participated in a recent Grief and Bereavement Awareness Event at Stepping Hill Hospital.

Community Groups

Sarah has actively engaged with various community and networking groups, including the Women’s Institute (WI).

Our presentations can be tailored to your specific interests, whether sharing our 160+ year history, offering insights into the funeral industry, dispelling myths surrounding funerals, showcasing unique personal touches that can be included in services, or discussing funeral wishes and pre-planning options.

Sarah has also been invited to attend Friendly Fridays regularly, facilitating discussions on funeral planning in a more relaxed setting.

Schools and Youth Groups

We offer presentations designed specifically for younger audiences, which is particularly relevant now, with the introduction of Bereavement Education, (including death and dying) at schools in England within the statutory RSHE curriculum from September 2026.

Our Funeral Home grounds feature a beautiful Memorial Postbox, where our bereaved community can send letters, cards, and messages to their departed loved ones. This is especially comforting for children, allowing them to express their emotions, share memories, and say goodbye. We also have several bereavement books and resources for school-age and younger children that we are happy to recommend.

Colleges

Over the years, we have welcomed numerous work experience students and participated in our first Apprenticeship programme in 2024.

We are currently collaborating with Cheadle College and their Health and Social Care students, providing presentations during career events and offering work experience placements. We can discuss career paths in Funeral Directing and the various roles within the broader industry.

Charities

Recently, Sarah, our Company Director, presented at the Together Trust’s Network Together business networking morning, discussing MuchLoved – one of our complimentary services that supports charities through in-memory donations.

For several years, we have been proud supporters of Mentell, consistently striving to provide relevant resources for the families we serve.

Our Door is Always Open

Recently, we welcomed a group of our neighbours to Alcocks, eager to learn about how our family business operates.

We shared updates on the planned redevelopment of our facilities and Taylor’s Yard.

We embrace opportunities to discuss death, dying, and planning ahead, as we are passionate about breaking down taboos and alleviating fears surrounding these topics.

We aim to facilitate challenging conversations about end-of-life and funeral planning, and we can also recommend other professionals in the field of bereavement and end-of-life care.

We are always available to assist those seeking advice and guidance.

Ryan, our Acting Head of Business, and Sarah, our Company Director, have delivered numerous talks over the years. If you would like to request a presentation, please reach out to us at 0161 428 2097 or email adminteam@jasfunerals.co.uk.
