Alcocks is one of the oldest established firms in the Cheadle District, we have been serving the community since 1863. From our beginnings as a carpenters and undertakers in a small workshop at the rear of Alcocks General and Fancy Drapers Store on Cheadle High Street, to the our funeral home at Brook House, the former family home, we are so grateful for the continued support we receive from the local community.
Directors, mother and daughter team, Barbara and Sarah Parker, were thrilled to welcome over 200 guests including, the Mayor of Stockport, Graham Greenhalgh, the President of SAIF, Mark Horton, suppliers and stakeholders, neighbours and local businesses, and families and friends – all those who have been invaluable to the firms success. They were particularly delighted to welcome Derek Ashton, who worked as a handyman and painter and decorator for the firm from the 1950’s!
The celebration gave guests the opportunity to enjoy fizz and cakes whilst viewing the exciting new plans for the redevelopment of the site behind the current funeral home; explore the history of Jonathan Alcock and Sons through the ages on their detailed timeline; learn about the history of Cheadle with Cheadle Civic Society providing interesting and insightful stories; and Alcocks were delighted to welcome the ‘Coffin Boffin’s’ from Steve Soult Ltd, who presented a lively and fascinating talk about the grave history of coffins! There were also goodies and information packs for guests to take away.
Over the last three years Alcocks have proudly supported Mentell, with an annual donation, and so were delighted to be able to support them further at the event, with all proceeds from the raffle going to this incredibly important charity. Mentell provides circles for men aged 18+ to talk (or just listen) in a safe and confidential space, free from advice and judgement. A fantastic £770.00 was raised on the night!
Alcocks are incredibly proud of their team, many of whom have worked for the firm for many years, and are looking forward to the future, with exciting plans for growth and development over the coming year.
Later his sons John & George took over the business, and when John died in 1961 his son-in-law, Bob Parker became Managing Director.
Now his son, Chris, and his wife and daughter are the current Directors. Chris has since retired but Barbara & Sarah continue the family business – along with the team, they are here to help you make the right choice for you and your loved one.
