Grief Counselling by Louise Wilcock

Grief Counselling by Louise Wilcock

Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them.

I am Louise, a registered Counsellor. I work privately from rooms in Bramhall and also at a hospice. I offer counselling across a variety of areas but particularly loss and bereavement.

Counselling can offer a confidential and safe place for you to talk whilst someone takes the time to listen.  Counselling will offer you supportive space whilst you explore your feelings.

I have heard and seen how differently everyone grieves.  So, counselling is based on building a trusting relationship and tailoring sessions to each persons’ individual needs.

Grief is a fluid process, taking you forwards, backwards and sideways in your emotions.  Those feelings can change day by day, hour by hour.  One of the hardest parts  to deal with is the unpredictability of your feelings, not knowing how you are going to feel each day.

Helping people understand that how they are experiencing their own grief is ‘ok’.  No two people’s grief is the same.  Allowing people the time to express how they feel, whatever those feelings might be.  Or allowing them the time just to talk about the person they have lost.  Also, providing an opportunity to explore how the future might look.

There is no time scale to grief.  People feel pressure from others who assume, after a certain time, that they are ok, moved on.  This can then lead to them supressing their feelings or thinking they can’t talk about their loved one.  All the feelings then get pushed down inside and can make the person feel worse.  Counselling gives you that space to keep talking or sitting quietly with those feelings in the presence of someone who will hold that space.

Always be kind to yourself, check in with yourself, take things at your pace.
