10 Mar Live Harp Music for Funerals and Memorial Services by Rebecca Mills
Live music has a unique way of speaking when words fall short. At funerals, memorials, and celebrations of life, music can gently hold space for reflection, remembrance, and love.
As a professional harpist I consider it a great privilege to support families through music at such important moments.
I, Rebecca Mills, am a professional harpist with many years of experience performing at funerals and remembrance services across the UK. Originally from South Shields, I began my classical training at Chetham’s School of Music and continued my studies at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Since then, I have played the harp for Royalty and in over 86 different countries and in a wide range of settings. In the funeral sector this includes crematoriums, churches, private venues, open-casket services, and celebrations of life.
Each service is different, and I approach every occasion with care, sensitivity, respect, and a deep understanding of how important and personal these moments are for families and loved ones, as each farewell is unique.

Alongside my work within funeral services, I have spent the past 15 years performing for multiple charities within the healthcare sector, including hospitals, hospices, and care settings. This experience has made me especially comfortable and confident playing at end-of-life and remembrance moments. I understand the sensitivity required, the emotional weight these occasions can carry, and the importance of being calm, discreet, and fully supportive of both families and funeral professionals.
What I love most about playing for funerals and memorials is being part of such meaningful moments in people’s lives. It is truly an honour to support families through music at a time when compassion, presence, and thoughtfulness matter more than anything else.
A Personal and Thoughtful Service
I always tailor the music for every service, ensuring it reflects the wishes of the family and the life being remembered. This includes:
- Helping families choose meaningful pieces of music
- Adapting musical arrangements to suit the tone of the service
- Coordinating with celebrants, funeral directors, and venues
- Carefully considering positioning, acoustics, and timing
- Matching colour schemes or visual preferences where requested
From classical and traditional pieces to more modern or personalised selections, I am happy to advise and create musical arrangements that perfectly suit the harp & feel right for each occasion.
A Privileged Moment of Remembrance
At the end of 2025, I had the great privilege of performing at a memorial service in my hometown of Bramhall, near Stockport, remembering lost loved ones within the community. Being invited to contribute musically to such a personal and meaningful event close to home is deeply special to me, and reflects the trust families place in my work.
Testimonials and Experience
I have been honoured to receive many kind words from families who have felt comforted by the presence of live harp music during services. Testimonials can be provided on request, and I am always happy to work closely with funeral professionals to ensure everything runs smoothly.
