“’What is grief?’ was made in response to questions that many grieving people ask our Helpline:’ Is that way that I’m feeling normal? Will it always feel this bad? Will I ever be happy again?’. It is designed to help anyone of any age or background who is grieving by explaining some of the difficult but normal emotions you can feel, acknowledging the challenges you might experience, and suggesting some things that can help. The content was based on the experiences of bereaved families we support, the concerns they have shared with us, and what they have told us helps them in their grief.”

‘What is grief?’ was awarded a Special Mention in the Mental Health category of the Big Syn International Film Festival 2024 and was a finalist in the Charity Film Awards 2025.

If you’re struggling to explain your emotions to family and friends, why not share this video with them.
